Tasmania pokies statistics and venue data
A source-checked snapshot of premises, authorised machines and gaming expenditure in Tasmania. Every number is labelled by definition so a legal cap, a granted-machine field and live activity are not confused.

The Treasury industry-data page reports 92 premises with gaming machines and 3,308 authorised machines: 977 in casinos and 2,331 in hotels and clubs. Our machine total matches, while the count of machine-bearing rows extracted from the venue table is 94. These are not interchangeable measures.
Gaming-machine expenditure
The official 2025–26 figures report $121.83 million for hotels and clubs and $86.43 million for casinos, for a total of $208.27 million. Treasury states that these figures are reported on an accrual basis—the month in which the gambling occurred. Expenditure is not the same as turnover, venue revenue, player winnings or household loss.
| Category | Expenditure | Share of reported total |
|---|---|---|
| Hotels and clubs | $121.83m | 58.5% |
| Casinos | $86.43m | 41.5% |
| Total | $208.27m | 100% |
Monthly expenditure, venues and machines
Treasury’s rolling-year series is published monthly in arrears. The chart keeps the original month labels and displays player expenditure, defined by Treasury as the amount wagered minus the amount won.

Why the official 92 and our 94 do not yet agree
The official page reports 92 premises with gaming machines, while our deterministic extraction finds 94 venue rows containing a numeric granted-machine value. We preserve both figures rather than silently selecting one. The mismatch may reflect a classification, timing or table-state issue, but none of those explanations is published as fact until the source owner confirms it.
This discrepancy is why individual venue pages remain held: a polished profile should not imply certainty that the source itself has not yet allowed us to reconcile.

Method, definitions and limitations
- Capture the official venue table and retain the source date.
- Select rows with a numeric granted-machine value.
- Normalise numeric formatting without estimating blanks.
- Group the retained rows by the source LGA field.
- Compare the derived totals with the separate industry-data headline.
- Hold conflicting records instead of forcing agreement.
Do not use these figures as
- a live count of machines currently switched on or available;
- a substitute for a current licence search;
- proof that a listed venue is open now;
- a measure of gambling harm on its own;
- a prediction of wins, losses or future spending.
For context on the statutory caps, read Tasmania pokies laws and gaming-machine rules. To inspect the rows behind this analysis, open the candidate venue register.
